School context. Clear limits.
Pulse verifies access to a supported school email inbox. That does not verify enrollment, identity, age, or someone’s intentions. Shared campus context is a starting point for a connection, not a guarantee of safety.
Feeling comfortable is part of feeling connected.
Here’s what the product does—and what its controls mean.
Pulse verifies access to a supported school email inbox. That does not verify enrollment, identity, age, or someone’s intentions. Shared campus context is a starting point for a connection, not a guarantee of safety.
The app can use optional foreground location for map positioning and proximity ranking. Rounded approximate coordinates may be sent for those requests. Other students do not see your raw GPS position. Pulse does not request background location access.
If you choose to share presence, it connects your profile to a campus place with an expiry. Privacy settings control who can see that place. Crowd summaries suppress small groups, but aggregation does not guarantee anonymity. Presence is still location-related information.
Privacy settings cover name search, surname display, classes, groups, shared place presence, and direct messages. Turning off search discovery does not hide your profile from people in shared plans or conversations.
The current plan composer uses approved public campus venues and a recognizable meeting point. Review the plan’s audience and details before taking part. Group visibility and profile privacy are separate controls; they do not make every plan private.
Students who join a plan share its group conversation. A public invitation preview is a separate, host-controlled sharing action with limited details.
You can block people and report content or behavior in the app. Reports are available to authorized moderators for review. These tools cannot promise an immediate response or prevent every harmful interaction.
Choose a public meeting place, review who and what you’re joining, and leave if you feel uncomfortable. Pulse is not an emergency service.
The marketing map uses public UMD place coordinates. Activity numbers, people, and plans are illustrative. The app demo runs the Pulse app in your browser: its campus is real, its people, plans, clubs and events are fictional, and nothing you do in it is saved or sent to Pulse. This website, including the demo, does not request your device location or read private student, message, presence, or plan data.
The interactive basemap, and the maps in the app demo, make normal browser requests to OpenFreeMap. Our website privacy notice explains the waitlist, analytics, and map-provider requests.
